Being a writer, there are two things I envy from Michael O’Gara on “Sword, Cross and Crown.”
- He grabs you by the throat on the very first page of his book; he captures your interest and he never, ever lets go. He jumps right into the action and you are sucked up into the middle of an exciting adventure.
- At the same time, he is able to fill you on the background of a very complicated story without sounding artificial. Little by little you learn all the details you need to know in a very natural way.
My own frustrations tell me that these two virtues do not arrive easily and without practice; they need to be tried and tried again in order to achieve them reasonably good. You will find them both on “Sword, Cross and Crown.”
In Michael’s book, Wolf is a thirteen year old boy living in medieval times. He is also the heir of a throne. You would think his life would be easy, but it is not.
It turns out all of his relatives want him dead. I know you may say the same thing about your closest teenager, but trust me, it is not the same. In this case, they really want him dead. The reason is that if Wolf dies, they may have a claim to his throne.
Wolf has learned about his family ambitions and has decided to stay alive… and become king. He has taken the route of deception and allows everybody to think he is dumb when he is actually very clever; he has pretended to be weak when in reality, he is stronger than he looks. But… he is not skilled in the art of medieval combat.
Then one day, he runs into a mysterious warrior who calls himself Shadow. This knight may be able to teach Wolf how to fight… or he might as well kill Wolf or hold him for ransom. It all depends on how well the future king handles things.
And… this is just the beginning of an exciting adventure. Be a part of it. Read Michael´s book and learn all about Wolf’s adventures.
As a reader, I enjoyed Michael’s work. As an aspiring writer, I am trying to learn some of his techniques to apply them on my own work.

Siendo un escritor, hay dos cosas que envidio de Michael O’Gara en su libro “Sword, Cross and Crown.”
- Él te sujeta de la garganta en la primera página de su libro; captura tu interés y nunca más te suelta. Salta directo a la acción y tú te ves envuelto a la mitad de una gran aventura.
- Al mismo tiempo, él sabe darte los detalles de una complicada historia sin sonar artificial. Poco a poco vas aprendiendo todo lo que necesitas saber de la trama de una manera natural.
Mis propias frustraciones al escribir me dicen que estas dos virtudes no llegan fácilmente o sin práctica; necesitan ser ensayadas una y otra vez para poder dominarlas razonablemente bien. Encontrarás ambas en el libro “Sword, Cross and Crown.”
En el libro de Michael, Wolf es un adolescente de trece años viviendo en la edad media. También es el heredero a un trono. Pensarías que su vida es fácil, pero no lo es.
Resulta que todos sus parientes lo quieren muerto. Sé que tú me podrías decir lo mismo de tu adolescente más cercano, pero créeme, no es lo mismo. En este caso, realmente lo quieren muerto. La razón es que si Wolf muere, podrán reclamar su trono.
Wolf se ha enterado acerca de las ambiciones de su familia y ha decidido permanecer vivo… y convertirse en rey. Ha optado por la ruta de los engaños y permite que todos piensen que es tonto cuando en realidad es bastante inteligente; ha fingido ser débil, pero es más fuerte de lo que aparenta. Pero… no es hábil en el arte del combate medieval.
Entonces un día, se encuentra con un misterioso guerrero que se hace llamar Shadow. Este caballero puede enseñarle a Wolf a pelear… o puede matarlo o secuestrarlo y pedir un rescate. Todo de depende de cómo maneje las cosas el futuro rey.
Y este sólo es el principio de una gran aventura. Tú puedes ser parte de ella. Lee el libro de Michael y conoce las aventuras de Wolf.
